Celebrate where it was earned, after the round
Confetti fires in the game, at the moment a rare win is earned, once play has stopped. Never during a round, and never later on Home.
Context
Until 3.22 the system celebrated once a month: the podium on the 1st (3.20). 3.22 added two daily wins worth celebrating: being the first to find the longest word possible on the daily Longest word board, and being the first to solve the daily trivia question. Each needed a place for its confetti.
Two places were already closed. During a round only feedback moves, because anything else pulls the eye off the board while the clock runs. And Home is where the result shows up later, on a Compete card that turns green for everyone who played.
Options
| Option | Result |
|---|---|
| During the round | Ruled out by the motion rules: only feedback moves during a live round |
| Later, on Home, when the Compete card turns green | Ruled out in the 3.22 notes: "never on Home" |
| In the game, at the earned moment, once play has stopped | Chosen |
Decision
Confetti fires in the game at the earned moment.
- Longest word: finding the longest word possible ends the round on the find. For the first player to find it, the confetti lands as the results board opens, off the "longest possible" pill.
- Trivia, 3.22: off the green pill at the solve, which ended that day's one-question round.
- Trivia, 3.23 on: a solve no longer ends the run, so the confetti moved to the summary. The player who solved the most today sees "You solved the most" in green (worded "You unlocked the most" until 3.23.2), with the podium confetti, after the round.
The confetti is built from board parts in tile colours (tiles, selected tiles, name tiles, trace ribbons), never green, and clears on its own. Under reduced motion there is none.
Evidence
Consequences
- Celebration lives outside the round. A new game mode can't celebrate mid-play; the build recipe freezes the round.
- In the code, confetti fires in three places: the podium on the 1st, the first to find the daily longest word, and the daily trivia leader at the end of the run. The update reel draws its own.
- The podium is the exception to "never on Home". It opens as a sheet the first time the app lands on Home on the 1st.
- The 3.22 notes also list "welcome back" as a confetti moment. In the code, welcome back is a quiet card on Home with no confetti.
- See Celebration for the confetti's parts and timing.
