Trivia
A question on top, its answer hidden on a 5×5 board as a path you swipe. Built entirely from parts every other board already uses.
When it happens
- Daily trivia, from the Trivia card on Home: one run a day, 2 minutes, as many questions as you can. Everyone gets the same questions on the same boards, so the leaderboard is a fair race.
- Trivia mode in Play, in a room or solo: rounds of 1, 2 or 3 minutes at Mixed, Easy, Intermediate or Difficult. In a room everyone meets the same questions in the same order.
Composition
From top to bottom, every part is an existing component:
| Part | Component | Spec |
|---|---|---|
| Eyebrow | label | "Trivia · Sat, Oct 10" or "Trivia · Solo" |
| HUD | timer pill, score pill | clock on the left; "N solved" on the right. Pills, because both change |
| Question card | card | fill --raise, 1px --rule, radius 14, padding 14 / 16; "Question N · Easy" above the question, both centred |
| Slot | word pill | height 40, 18px above and below; "Swipe the answer" at rest |
| Board | tile | 5×5, the answer laid down as a path, decoys around it |
| Actions | outline buttons | Hint ("1 left", then "Hint used") and Skip, 44px tall |

- Get ready. "Get ready…", then 3, 2, 1 (3.8s) before the clock starts.
- Read and trace. The pill shows the letters as you swipe.
- Solve. The pill turns
--earnedfor 650ms, with a haptic tap. This is the run's one green moment; the next question follows. - Not it. A wrong word of 3 or more letters shows in the rose pill for 900ms. Under 3 letters says nothing, because it's a fumbled tap, not a guess.
- Hint, once per run: the first two path tiles light, and a small tag with a bulb rides at the front of the pill. Tracing the whole word, starting on the second hint tile, or tracing only what's left all count.
- Skip is free and moves on; skips only break ties.
- Time. The clock turns rose in the last 10 seconds; at zero the run is banked and the summary opens.
- Look back (3.25.5). Every answer on the summary opens its question: tap it and a sheet shows the question, the answer forming in the word pill, and the board it was on with the answer traced, the same small board and trace as the daily board's leaderboard. Tap the board to play it again. Room results open the same sheet, with who solved it under the title.

States
| State | What the player sees |
|---|---|
| At rest | "Swipe the answer" in the slot |
| Tracing | neutral pill with the letters so far; lit tiles |
| Solved | green pill, 650ms, then the next question |
| Not it | rose pill, 900ms |
| Hint | two lit tiles; the tag with the bulb in the pill, through wrong answers and the solve |
| Last 10 seconds | rose timer pill |
| Summary | the count, "solved · N skipped · hint used", every question in order, each a 48px row with "Solved" or "Skipped" and a right chevron; "You solved the most" in green with confetti for the day's leader |
| Answer, replayed | a sheet titled "Question N · Easy", "Solved" or "Skipped" under it; the question; the word pill filling letter by letter (220ms a tile, after 450ms) as the tiles press and the trace grows; under 360px the board is 232px. Reduced motion: the whole answer at once |
Why it's built this way
Known issues and gaps
- Long clues make the card taller. 20 clues run over 80 characters; 10 of them take 4 lines on a 390-wide phone and set the card's height in most runs. New clues are capped at 80 characters.
- The card's height is set per run, so it can differ from one run to the next.
- Like every board, the answer can only be traced with a pointer.
- Room results saved before 3.25.5 carry no question references, so their answers don't open.
