The Daily board keeps a point a letter
Boggle's and Word Hunt's scoring were weighed for the Daily board, along with a bonus or a mark for words only you found and a bonus for 8 letters or more. The Daily board keeps its scoring, a point a letter from 3 letters, with no jump.
Context
Ru asked whether words nobody else found should score more on the Daily board, as they do in rooms, and then: "for daily board let's do different scoring, can you search Boggle rules and Word Hunt rules, let's play off those a bit."
The Daily board scores every word with partyScore: 3 letters 1, 4 letters 2, then letters − 2. It has no unique rule: the daily boards sum partyScore plainly and never go through the rooms' scoring, where a word only one player found scores ×2. It's a 5×5 board, 90 seconds, 3 letters or more.
What the two games do, from published rule summaries (tables vary a little by edition; the Word Hunt figures are from a solver site, not GamePigeon):
| Letters | Outword Daily board | Boggle | Word Hunt |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | 1 | 1 | 100 |
| 4 | 2 | 1 | 400 |
| 5 | 3 | 2 | 800 |
| 6 | 4 | 3 | 1,400 |
| 7 | 5 | 5 | 1,800 |
| 8 or more | 6, then +1 a letter | 11 | 2,200 at 8 |
In Boggle, a word more than one player found is crossed off every list and scores nothing. Word Hunt has no such rule.
Options
| Option | What it is | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Unique words double | A word nobody else found that day scores ×2, like rooms | Players finish at different times, so whether a word stays unique is known only when the day ends; points bank when you finish. Ru: "maybe unique words can't count as much in the daily then". Not chosen |
| An "only you" mark, no points | On your row of the day's results, the words nobody else had found | Mocked: a strong player's row carried it on 18 of 23 words. Ru: "let's just drop unique in daily board" |
| A steeper climb, after Word Hunt | 3 letters 1, then +2 a letter | The 20-word board in the evidence goes from 40 to 60, ahead of Longest word (about 18) and Trivia (about 30) in the month. Not chosen |
| A long-word prize, after Boggle | 8 letters or more scores 11; then, so longer words keep climbing, a point a letter with +5 at 8 letters or more (8 is 11, 9 is 12) | Ru: "I feel like it's unfair; instead 8 letters or more is 6, then 7 for 9, etc." Not chosen |
| A point a letter, as now | 3 letters 1, +1 a letter, no jump | Chosen |
Decision
The Daily board's scoring doesn't change: every word scores partyScore, 3 letters 1 point and +1 a letter, with no ceiling and no bonus. The Daily board has no unique rule, and its results mark none. Rooms keep their unique ×2. "How points work" says the rule in one line, "3 letters is 1 point, +1 a letter.", and plays one word growing: TAG +1, GATHER +4, GATHERED +6.
Evidence
| Long words on the board | 18 of the 19 Daily boards from Oct 13 to 31, 2026 have at least one word of 8 letters or more in the everyday dictionary |
| The "only you" mock | a 4-player day on the Oct 17 board: 3 of 6 words marked on your row, 18 of 23 on the leader's |
| The month's balance | a 20-word board (eight of 3 letters, seven of 4, three of 5, one of 6, one of 7) scores 40 today, 29 under Boggle's table, 60 under +2 a letter |

Consequences
- Every Daily board point is final when you finish; nothing about the board's score depends on who plays later.
- Uniqueness stays a room rule, where everyone finishes together.
- An 8-letter word is worth 6, two more than a 6-letter word; a long word earns more without a jump.
